To the members of the MPA, the Contract Negotiation Team wants to say thank you for the support shown during this negotiation process.  The contract has been agreed upon and ratified by the membership.  It was very impressive to see how many of you showed up at City Hall when the Association was allowed to address the council.  You can believe it made an impression on the members of the City Council.  We need to continue this support, and build upon it, to make our Association stronger.  When we needed their support, our council came through in the end. They assisted by making phone calls to the Director of Human Resources for the city.

We would like to send a special thanks to the following city council members: Joe Brown, Wanda Halbert, Janis Fullilove, Myron Lowery, Bill Morrison, Edmund Ford, Jr., Jim Strickland, and William C. Boyd.  They showed major support, and even attended a meeting at the Association. The meeting was designed to allow the membership, the opportunity to meet city council members, and address issues of concern directly with them.

If you should happen to see the following officers please thank them for doing an outstanding job serving on the Negotiations Team.  They are all very smart individuals, and brought a lot to the team.  They spent approximately 2,560 man hours working to accomplish their mission.  A lot of what we got was because of their skills and hard work, they are as follows:  Essica Littlejohn, Thomas Parker, Veronica Carson, Daniel Miller, Stuart Frisch, Archie Rudd, and Rick Melton.  Just because the negotiations are over, we need to keep working on the pension plan, 20 and out, 5 year drop, and tuition reimbursement.  We also want to continue the efforts to revitalize the Association.

If there were no Association, we may not have gotten some of the additional benefits.  We would have only gotten the 5% and 3% like the rest of the city workers and nothing else.  Also, if there were no Association, the city may have taken away some of the benefits that they came after, such as OJI. The Association spent approximately $30,000 (Attorney Fees, Media Campaign, etc…) for the negotiations.  Please visit us in the Association office at 638 Jefferson if you are in the area.
