In order to give the City of Memphis superior police protection, to maintain the high integrity of the police force, to maintain, promote and encourage professionalism on the behalf of the members of the Memphis Police Department, to seek efficient methods of law enforcement, to improve working conditions and other economic advantages of Memphis Police Department, to promote career service in municipal government; to extend and uphold the principles of merit and fitness of members of the Memphis Police Department; to bring into closer relationship members of the Police Department and the elective and administrative officers of the City of Memphis; to promote fair and equal promotional opportunities; to prevent any type of job discrimination, unfair practices or reprimands which may arise; generally, to promote the morale and welfare of members of the Memphis Police Department and their families; to cooperate in giving efficient government service and especially to promote all avenues in giving the City of Memphis effective and vigorous law enforcement; and to promote a spirit of fellowship and fraternity among its members; and to promote the advancement of the cause of law enforcement to the end that superior police protection will be provided for the City of Memphis.
